Dr. Yasmina Okan is a Ramón y Cajal Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Communication at Pompeu Fabra University and a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Decision Research (Leeds University Business School, UK), where she previously held positions as a Lecturer (2013-18) and as an Associate Professor (2018-2022). She has also been a visiting researcher at different international institutions including the Max Planck Institute for Human Development (Germany), Wake Forest University, and the University of Oklahoma (US).

She holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Granada, an MSc in Cognitive and Decision Sciences from University College London, and a degree in Psychology from the Autonomous University of Madrid. Her research focuses on health risk communication and decision making, and she has published widely in this area in leading scientific journals.

Among other questions, her work has examined how medical and health information is communicated to the public (e.g., the risks and benefits of different treatments or interventions), how people interpret probability information presented in different formats (e.g., numerical or graphical), and how to design communications in an accessible way to support informed health decision making.
