Visit of Three Palestinian Researchers to the JOVIS Seminar on Youth and Mental Health

On Monday, May 19, 2025, Room 55.309 at the Poblenou campus of Pompeu Fabra University hosted a seminar by the JOVIS research group, featuring three distinguished researchers from Bethlehem University. The event was conducted entirely in English and chaired by Dr. Macarena García González, the group coordinator.
Dr. Minerva Qassis Jarayseh opened the session with the presentation “Childhood in Palestine: Child Right from Psychological Perspective,” exposing the devastating impact of occupation and violence on the mental health of Palestinian children and youth, the loss of access to education, and the urgent need for the real application of international law.
Next, Dr. Abeer Musleh presented “Researching youth during a Genocide,” where she reflected on research with youth in contexts of genocide and the importance of transforming narratives and epistemologies, advocating for the value of community knowledge and the creation of a distinct Palestinian epistemology.
Finally, Dr. Razzan Quran delivered the presentation “On the Health Impacts on Palestinian First Aid Responders,” analyzing the physical and emotional consequences of working as healthcare staff in settings of conflict and collective trauma, highlighting the role of the community and the importance of listening to what is held within collective trauma.
This session was made possible thanks to an Erasmus Mundus agreement, a unique collaboration in Catalonia maintained by the efforts of the JOVIS group, reinforcing a commitment to international academic collaboration and the study of youth and childhood in global contexts.
