Last Friday, February 21, the JOVIS research group organized a thematic seminar where researchers analyzed the complexities experienced by youth in various contemporary contexts. The event addressed three main themes: the mediatization of politics in local contexts; media literacy and antifeminist discourses; and migration and cultural identities.

Salvatore Giusto presented his research titled "Vox Populist: Organized Crime Culture, Populist Media Management, and Neoliberal Governmentality in Naples, Italy", in which he analyzed the media landscapes of Naples, exploring how political mediatization and the use of popular discourses contribute to constructing narratives of social antagonism. Through ethnography and participant observation, Giusto also examined the impact of local celebrities in the neomelodic media system.

Inty Bachué presented a research proposal titled "Participatory Audiovisual Methodology as a Tool for Enhancing Media and Information Literacy and Mitigating Antifeminist Discourse Among Secondary School Youth in Spain," which, will focus on communication for social change and strategies to mitigate antifeminist discourses in digital environments. Her analysis, which will take place in Barcelona, highlights the importance of media literacy and youth participation in better understanding perceptions surrounding various discourses.

Finally, Ziting Li, with her project proposal "Social Media and Cultural Identity: Cultural Belonging and Acculturation in 1.5 and Second-Generation Chinese Immigrant Youth," will explore how social networks shape the sense of belonging and bicultural identities in second-generation Chinese migrant youth. Her research will combine mixed methods and conceptualizes identity as situational negotiation, where different digital platforms enable the coexistence of diverse cultural identities.
