Last Friday, October 25th, the Youth, Society and Communication Research Group (JOVIScom) at Pompeu Fabra University organized a thematic seminar in a hybrid format from 12 to 14 hours in Room 52.701 at the Poblenou Campus.

Bryan Vargas Vargas discussed how transnational companies precarize employment among rural youth, making it difficult to have a life project. The researcher introduced the category of "sub-employment" due to the temporary nature of these jobs.

Dr. Miriam Kriger emphasized the importance of linking historical moments with current Argentine reality. She mentioned the global rise of the far right in its forms such as "far right" and "alt right". She compared her research in Argentina with current research in Barcelona, highlighting the difficulty some people have in differentiating between xenophobia and racism. Much of her contributions focused on the field of significations and the reappropriations of historical discourses and events.

Judit Ferez Bautista presented her research analyzing sexist violence experienced by female athletes on social networks. She made an important distinction between major machismo and micro-machismo. She evaluated discourse regarding insults, attacks, and other categories that help understand the level of violence faced by high-performance female athletes. Furthermore, she conducted content analysis on a sample and applied a bullying questionnaire to athletes, conducting 14 interviews to learn more about the situation.

This event was a unique opportunity to explore critical issues related to youth in various social and political contexts.
