The Communication and Citizenship Section of the Spanish Association of Communication Research (AE-IC) announces the celebration of the III Congress on Communication and Citizenship: Community Communication, Collective Wisdom, and Democratic Coexistence. Proposals from Below, which will take place on May 22-23, 2025, at the Canòdrom in Barcelona, a renowned space for innovation and creativity. This event will bring together researchers, activists, journalists, and communication professionals to reflect on the various ways in which citizens appropriate, collaborate, or subvert the media system and accessible communication to claim a free and egalitarian political space.

The Congress is organized in collaboration with the Network for Research on Community, Alternative, and Participatory Communication (RICCAP), Pompeu Fabra University through the EducoGEN i+d project, and the SOSCom i+d project. It also features key entities such as La Veïnal, El Parlante, and Incom UAB.

The event will explore the following thematic lines: Media literacy and alternative and citizen media; Communication policies and rights; Feminisms, audiovisual and new technologies; Ecosocial justice and peace narratives; The community against disinformation and hate speech.
