The CodeClubCat.org program is a network of free activities that encourages code learning and programming for the younger ones. Among its activities, there is Code Club in the Libraries, which allows carrying out of activities in public libraries, carried out with volunteers. Following some words about the experience of our students (@EnginyeriesUPF):

*Jordi Auladell, Computer Science Degree (CodeClub-Biblioteques, academic course 2016-2017)

"When the University proposed to carry out the Code Club Cat program, I was not too clear about whether to do it or not. First, I was scared about the idea of doing a volunteer program with children from 10 to 12 years old, I thought it would be a chaos and I could not control them, there are people born with the vocation of educating and drawing children, but this was not my case.

The incentive that this program had was being able to validate 1 ECTS credit and do it in any Library assigned to the program; in this case I could choose the Library next to the house.

The idea of programming with children at first may seem complicated, but a UK group created the Scratch program. Scratch is the tool that is used to teach children the first notions of programming with computers, so it is a very visual program that allows you to create video games with your own characters. The fact that children themselves can create their video game makes them motivated and eager to learn and make them more complex each day.

My experience is very positive; I think that we need to motivate children with programming from very young because this creates a way to see things logically and differently. They can understand how a coordinate axis works, the conditionals and at the same time the repetitions of a program. I think it is a great opportunity to share knowledge with boys and girls who are eager to learn. "

* Student of Mathematics and Data Science Degree (CodeClub-Biblioteques academic course 2017-2018):

“The software used (Scratch) is very user-friendly. With Scratch, you can easily prepare your lectures because it will help you find online resources. To work with ten-year-old children may seem difficult, but in my case they behaved properly and there was no problem. If you sign up for the course, you will get 1 ECTS credit. Briefly, this is a great initiative by Code Club, because to learn programming from a young age may be a future asset for children and a chance to gain work experience for students.”
