Ana Castaño is a PhD student whose current research revolves around the teaching and assessment of critical literacy among university students of Spanish as a Foreign Language. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Social Anthropology from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and a Master’s degree in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (Universitat de Barcelona and Universitat Pompeu Fabra). She holds a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education  (Modern Foreign Languages) from the University of Cumbria and has taught Spanish in Secondary and University contexts both in the UK and China.

From 2014 to 2018 teached Spanish as a Foreign Language at the Foreign Languages University in Dalian (North of China). Her doctoral thesis analysis critical literacy by Chinese students of Spanish as a Foreign Language, supervised by Dr. Carmen López Ferrero. Her research interests are the New Literacy Studies, literacy practices, critical literacy, critical competence, Critical Discourse Analysis, ideology.
