Joan Aznar Bertolín has a degree in Information Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He completed the Master's Degree in ELE Teacher Training, taught by the University of Barcelona and the Pompeu Fabra University. He is a teacher of Spanish as a foreign language, as well as an oral examiner of the official DELE exams.

It was in 2016 when he began his doctoral studies at the Department of Translation and Language Sciences of the Pompeu Fabra University, under the supervision of Encarna Atienza. His main line of research focuses on audiovisual critical competence, covering other areas such as critical interculturality, Critical Discourse Studies, multimodality and evaluation.
