"If you talk a lot you will not avoid sin." The life of monks in a medieval monastery: Sant Cugat del Vallès
Dates:
- Saturday, 18th of March: SOLD OUT
- Saturday, 25th of March:
The Benedictine monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallès is one of the oldest monasteries in Catalonia. Its origins go back to the 9th century, when the Carolingian sovereigns promoted the foundation and spread of monastic communities subject to the rule of Saint Benedict throughout their empire. Under the protection of the counts of Barcelona and the kings of Aragon, the monastery of Sant Cugat ended up becoming one of the richest and most powerful abbeys in the Catalan territory.
Our visit aims to present the history of the monastery and its monastic community between the 9th and 15th centuries, as well as explain the norms and ideals of monastic life as set by the rule of Benedict of Nursia. The visit includes the Museum of Sant Cugat.
