Slave traders in Barcelona
Traces of slavery and slave trade in Barcelona
Data: 15 d'abril
Information about the route
In the 19th century, the port of Barcelona was a place of departure for slave ships. On the other hand, a large number of merchants and slave owners from Cuba and Puerto Rico settled in the Catalan capital, investing their capital in the Catalan economy and also in the purchase and construction of buildings. From all this, we have different materials that have come down to us today and that allow us to explain a hidden history, that of the slave past of Barcelona, of Catalonia and of Spain.
We will take a stroll through some of the streets and squares of the Ciutat Vella neighbourhood to visit some of the buildings that were related to slavery in Barcelona, and we will talk about these links based on this heritage legacy.
