The main research areas of the Research Group in Criminology and Criminal Justice are:

PRISONS AND PRISON SYSTEMS

Study of the quality of prison life in Catalan prisons, particularly in those areas related to prison organization and relationships within prison.

The main purpose of this research line is to know the differences in quality of prison life between prisons and determine which are the most important factors influencing this quality of life.

 

GENDER VIOLENCE

Research about the intersection between gender and margination, in relation to victims as well as offenders. Special focus on intimate partner violence (IPV).

 

WHITE COLLAR CRIMINALITY

Research on the investigation and prosecution of white-collar criminality by administrative bodies and the criminal justice system (Tax Agency, Public Prosecutor's Office, Police and Judges).

The goal is to analyze the multiple obstacles in the investigation and prosecution of economic crime. In addition, the treatment by the penal system once these criminals are convicted is studied. Finally, the prevalence of the restitutive logic of the damage (restorative justice) in these crimes over other penological purposes is also studied.

 

CRIMINAL RECORDS AS OBSTACLES FOR SOCIAL REINTEGRATION

Analysis of the Spanish and international regulation regarding criminal records; study of the effects of criminal record on social reintegration of offenders; and research on the existence of discrimination in hiring processes due to criminal records.
