Emilio Hernández Carrillo

Emilio Hernández studied law at the University of San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador, where he obtained his law degree (2021). After some time working in the field of criminal law, he has complemented his studies by obtaining a Master's degree in Criminology and Criminal Execution at the universities UPF, UAB, UdG, UOC (2023). 

Subsequently, he has started his research and doctoral thesis focused on the history, use and dynamics of punitive populism in the development of criminal policy in Ecuador. Its director is Professor Elena Larrauri. 

His main academic interest focuses on the construction of criminal policy and its social impact. As well as the growth of prison populations, and the supervision of penitentiary systems.
