Elvira Vergara holds a degree in legal sciences (2015) from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and a master's degree in Criminology and Criminal Execution from the UPF, UOC, UAB and UdG (2023). Prior to starting her PhD, her work experience focused on the legal representation of victims of sexual crimes and human rights violations in Chile.
She is currently a scholarship holder of Becas Chile for doctoral studies abroad, granted by the Chilean National Agency for Research and Development.
She is currently working on her doctoral thesis on the intersection between the juvenile justice system and the child protection system, which has been referred to in Anglo-Saxon literature as ‘Crossover Youth’. Its director is Professor Elena Larrauri.
Her lines of research are: juvenile justice, gender and criminal justice and prison supervision mechanisms.
