The President of the Haas Library Association is pleased to announce that the selection committee of the "2024 Javier & Marta Villavecchia fellowships" has decided to grant two fellowships for the course 2023-2024 to the candidates

  • Harri Hudspith, poet, visual artist and PhD in Religion and Theology (University of Bristol)
  • Sara Ramos, composer and professor of Composition of the Seville Superior Conservatory

During the 2023-2024 winter semester, the artist Harri Hudspith will develop the creative project Bricks, branches, and bodies (of water): re-thinking the soul as a site of selfknowledge through the Dipòsit de les Aigües. Generating a dialogue between the singular architectonic space that hosts the Haas Library and the experiences of mystical wisdom of Catherine of Siena and Therese of Ávila, the artist will explore the corporeal and visual dimensions of the knowledge of the soul.

During the spring semester of the same course, the composer and professor Sara Ramos will develop an interdisciplinary academic and creative project about the Baroque composer Pierre Bouteiller's (1655-1717) requiem. Besides studying the piece and its originality in depth, the composer will provide a creative approach: Bouteiller's requiem will serve as the generating element of a contemporary composition for a string quartet.
