Filmmakers Bernadette Weber and Paula Giménez Monar offer a practical session based on their experience in audiovisual creation. The images of both artists take center stage in a meeting where the term “documentary” is called into question. What tensions and ambiguities arise in the creative processes of non-fiction cinema? Who translates reality, and what is translated? To whom do the images belong? Where do they come from?
The dialogue between the filmmakers through their images invites us to question the representative function of non-fiction and to reflect on the tensions that surface in the creative process: between the subject and the object, between encounter and discovery, between data and archive, between personal images and external materials, between research and intuition.
The images, in which the hope for understanding is placed, position both the artist and the audience in the foreign land of what exceeds all representation, all reconstruction. What processes, practices, and forms of translation do these images demand? How do the filmmakers care for them and accompany them in order to do them justice?
