International Seminar on populism, hate speech and the digital sphere

Paolo Gerbaudo, an expert in populism and social networks, author of the book The Great Recoil, participates in this new conference organized by the Ideogram-UPF Chair in Barcelona

This new seminar organized by the Ideograma-UPF Chair will take place on Wednesday, February 16, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

During the day, Sandra Pallarés, winner of the first edition of the Ideograma – UPF Chair Award  2021, will present the research: The communication of the radical right in social networks.

Next, the King's College professor and author of the book The Great Recoil, Paolo Gerbaudo will give a conference. Finally, Gerbaudo will speak with Agnès Marquès, journalist, Antoni Gutiérrez-Rubí, communication consultant, and Arantxa Capdevila, professor of Communication at the URV, in a round table moderated by Frederic Guerrero-Solé.

The event will take place at the Pompeu Fabra University, Poblenou Campus, Tangier building (room 55.309). Admission is free and it is not necessary to reserve a place in advance. It will also be broadcast live via streaming.

During the Seminar, the 2nd edition of the Ideograma - UPF Chair Award will be presented, aimed at recognizing the best Master's Thesis (TFM) in the field of political and institutional communication.

10:10 a.m. Presentation of the new report of the Chair: The communication of the populist radical right in social networks, by Sandra Pallarés.

10:30 a.m. Conference by Paolo Gerbaudo, expert in populism and social networks. Author of The Great Recoil.

11:15 a.m. Coffee break.

11:30 a.m. Round table with Paolo Gerbaudo, Arantxa Capdevila, Antoni Gutiérrez-Rubí and Agnès Marquès.
