The prestigious scientific journal in the field of communication El Profesional de la Información (EPI) publishes the article: “WhatsApp como canal de información política en España: credibilidad, perfil de usuarios y compartición de contenidos”. Its authors are Carles Pont-Sorribes, director of the Chair, Reinald Besalú, deputy director of the Chair and Lluís Codina, professor of the Department of Communication at UPF.

This publication is the product of the first research on the credibility of the information carried out by the Ideogram Chair - UPF, from which the study was derived: El uso de WhatsApp como herramienta de información política. A research in which also collaborated Metzeri Sánchez, Santiago Castelo and Edgar Rovira.

The article examines how Spanish citizens share political information on the WhatsApp instant messaging platform. Through a survey of 1,669 representative citizens by sex, age and province of origin, the following 3 objectives are set:

a) identify the usefulness of Spanish citizens in WhatsApp.

b) to know their practices before the political information received through them;

c) analyze whether or not political information is shared in groups and the level of credibility given to it by citizens.

The research provides a clear analysis of how WhatsApp is becoming one of the leading communication channels for sharing policy information. Some of the results that point to this conclusion show that 64% of Spaniards receive less than one weekly political news item via WhatsApp or that 24% receive 5 or more news items per week.
