Welcome to a new edition of ‘Quiztime’, the 360upf magazine section that puts your knowledge to the test! Our featured guest this issue is Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky. You may not know much about him, but his surname will surely at least ring a bell.

Dostoyevsky was born 200 years ago, on 11 November 1821. Over the course of his career, he became one of the most important writers in Russia and in universal literature. The philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche once remarked that Dostoyevsky was ‘the only psychologist from whom I had anything to learn’ and that he was ‘one of the happiest accidents of my life’.

His extensive body of work explores such timeless questions in human psychology as concern for an uncertain future, social injustices and romantic relationships. In this regard, it also helps us understand the complex political and social context of remote 19^th-century Tsarist Russia.
