New publication applying a degrowth approach to urban mobility options
New co-authored publication by researchers at the JHU-UPF Public Policy Center and GREDS-EMCONET Christos Zografos and Marta Conde in the journal Local Environment comparing mobility options such as hybrid and sharing schemes from a degrowth perspective, and developing criteria for the mobility of a degrowth society.
The article shows that private means of mobility are not desirable from a degrowth perspective and that public, hybrid and self-propelled mobility options would become more practical if private mobility effects were recognised and effected policies implemented. The article concludes that a degrowth framework can enrich debates on sustainable urban mobility and moves beyond the common proposition of promoting public transport as the solution.
