A novel cochlear reference frame based on the Laplace equation

  • . However, this system assigns also coordinates outside of the cochlear anatomy. In this work we present an alternative coordinate system for cochlear applications, based on the parameterization of the anatomy via the properties of the Laplacian equation. This coordinate system can be used as a tool for comparison of different cochlea sets as well as a different reference frame for cochlear imaging applications. This novel reference frame is only defined within the voxels of the cochlear region, so it is useful in applications like shape analysis and comparison of cochleas without the need for explicit registration.
