Simulation, Imaging and Modelling for Biomedical Systems
SIMBIOsys is part of the research comunity of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona. The group was established in October 2013 by Prof. Miguel A. González Ballester (ICREA Research Professor) and Prof. Gemma Piella Fenoy (Associate Professor at UPF), and obtained the Emerging Research Group SGR recognition in 2014 (2014-SGR-261). In early 2015, the group further expanded through its fusion with the Multiscale and Computational Biomechanics and Mechanobiology research group (MBIOMM, 2014-SGR-1616), led by Dr. Jérôme Noailly.
SIMBIOsys aims to consolidate as one of the leading research groups in medical image analysis, computer-assisted surgery and computational biomechanics, through an integrative research activity on mathematical and computational models, algorithms and systems for computer-aided diagnosis and treatment.
Our research group works closely with industrial and clinical partners, offering a framework to propose and develop biomedical applications and new demonstrative prototypes towards their final application in clinical routine.
