The MEDIUM research group, led by Carlos Alberto Scolari and Mercè Oliva, is interested in the study of popular media culture (video games, celebrities, television fiction, YouTube, participatory culture), both in terms of social discourse that popular culture carries, and for its potential for media education and transmedia literacy. Likewise, they analyse the evolution of the media ecosystem, media archeology and mediation processes. The group is interested in finding out how the arrival of new media changes the media environment and uses, as well as their potential for the participation of the audience in the creation and dissemination of content.
