Inner Speech in Action: New Perspectives (INACT)
Inner Speech in Action: New Perspectives is a research project led by Marta Jorba, based at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona) and funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.
INACT mainly focuses on the phenomenon of talking to ourselves in silence. The main objective is to develop a view of inner speech as independent from although related to thinking and to be able to map different inner speech profiles as they present in different mental conditions. It is a philosophically-led interdisciplinary project that aims to integrate results from phenomenology, psychology, and psychiatry.
An integral, conceptually consistent, and empirically plausible account of inner speech as a linguistic conscious activity will benefit from a theoretical and empirically informed exploration of the role of inner speech in schizophrenia (particularly AVHs and inserted thoughts) and in autism, as well as its relation to affordance experiences.
