KAYLA CHAPIN
Ph.D. candidate researcher

I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, where I completed my BA degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Linguistics and Spanish. Afterwards, I moved to Barcelona to complete my MA in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (2017). During this master’s program, I researched phonological attrition in native English speakers living in Barcelona, under the supervision of Dra. Núria Sebastián Gallés.

Presently, I am beginning my PhD on language in Alzheimer’s Disease, under the supervision of Dr. Wolfram Hinzen. My research looks at the relation between episodic memory and language, in particular through the linguistic measures of definiteness and specificity in non-present-tense spontaneous speech samples.
