A new series of social media literacy workshops was conducted and successfully completed during the 2022-2023 academic year in schools throughout Barcelona. The sessions, led by researchers from the TIDE Research Group, targeted the issues where recent studies have highlighted the need for media literacy intervention.
Throughout the 2022-2023 school year, over 200 students benefited from a new edition of the Courage workshops. Two high schools in Barcelona, Centere d’Estudis Dolmen and STUCOM, participated in the training sessions.
Some of the topics covered in the 2022-2023 edition included: a) Cultivating Empathy on Social Media, b) How Do Social Media Algorithms Work?, and c) Body Image and Stereotyping in Social Media.
The sessions were led by researchers René Lobo-Quintero, Emily Theophilou, and Roberto Sánchez-Reina, with the active participation of undergraduate students Paula Liñán, Jordi Guitart, Joan González, Gerard Costa, and Joel Lamata who introduced their designs as part of the students training.
