Last April 16th, students from the Master’s in Scientific, Medical and Environmental Communication at UPF-BSM visited the facilities of Radio Televisión Española (RTVE) in Barcelona to gain first-hand insight into how public media operate and to explore the role of radio and television in science communication.

During the visit, the students were welcomed by Núria Coll and Pere Buhigas, who shared for the second time their experience producing the programme Diga-li ciència. Throughout the tour, they explained the full process of recording a radio programme from team coordination and technical sound work to conducting interviews, managing timing, and creating accessible and rigorous content for the audience.

The visit also offered the opportunity to explore different television production spaces, including recording studios and rooms from which live news broadcasts are produced at both national and local levels. The students were able to observe the pace of work inside a newsroom and understand how the various areas involved in generating audiovisual content are organised.

This experience is directly connected to the radio workshop included in the master’s programme, where students develop practical skills for creating radio materials. The visit to RTVE provided an opportunity to bridge classroom learning with professional practice, bringing students closer to the real challenges and dynamics of the media landscape.
