Núria Almiron appointed as Professor of Ethics and Political Economy of Communication

Núria Almiron, co-director of the UPF Center for Animal Ethics, has been appointed Professor of Ethics and Political Economy of Communication.

Núria Almiron, co-director of the UPF Center for Animal Ethics, has been appointed Professor of Ethics and Political Economy of Communication. Having previously worked on other topics such as the political economy of communication groups, illegal capital flows and nuclear energy, in the last 13 years she has turned to critical animal studies. Initially focusing on the ethics of media representation of nonhuman species, her research interests have since shifted to the ethics of persuasion in animal-based industries.

Throughout her career she has been involved as editor, author or co-author in 45 books and has published over 70 academic papers. Her most recent publications include the edited volume Animal Suffering and Public Relations. The Ethics of Persuasion in the Animal Industrial Complex (Routledge, 2024), "Illusory Authenticity: Negotiating compassion in animal experimentation discourse” (Discourse Studies, 2024), with Laura Fernández and Miquel Rodrigo-Alsina, and "Compromised values: a comparative response during the covid-19 crisis by ethical vegans and vegetarians” (Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, 2024), with Estela M. Díaz and Olatz Aranceta-Reboredo.
