Pilar Suárez is a lecturer at the University of Lleida. She graduated with a degree in Communication Sciences from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (Mexico) and subsequently obtained a master's degree in Social Communication and a PhD in Communication from Pompeu Fabra University. She has also taken courses in photojournalism and documentary production. Her doctoral thesis investigated the image of childhood in the Spanish press during the Catalan independence process, focusing her areas of interest on journalism ethics and deontology, political communication, childhood and disinformation.
As a media professional, she has extensive journalistic experience after working as a television producer for the international news agencies Reuters and Associated Press, earning recognition for her work covering the terrorist attacks in Barcelona and the Catalan independence process. In addition, she has covered various international sporting events, combining this work with obtaining a football coaching qualification. Her sports experience led her to work with different media outlets such as Televisa (Mexico), ESPN radio (United States) and Caracol TV (Colombia), also collaborating with media outlets in Venezuela, Argentina, England and Scotland.
She has taught courses on Journalism Culture, Fundamentals of Journalism, News Agencies, Journalism Design, and Analysing Digital Journalism at Pompeu Fabra University. She has also taught undergraduate courses on Semiotics at the Escola Superior de Disseny (ESDi) and Communication Structure at ESERP Digital Business & Law School. At master's level, she has taught Media and Consumer Trends for Communication Strategies in the MUCREC master's programme and Communication in Sport in the Sports Management master's programme at the Barcelona School of Management UPF.
