JEPMEN: Journaling through E-coaching to Promote Mental Health

JEPMEN is currently selected within the entrepreneurial program Xarxa RDI-IA Pathfinder, and is co-funded with TIDE’s group own funds.

Currently validated at TRL 3-4, initial hypothesis testing and proof-of-concept trials have shown that virtual agent-assisted journaling yields positive results over time in both laboratory and real-world studies, laying the groundwork for developing AI methodologies for automatic multimodal mental state recognition. We have also developed new methodologies for learning socially appropriate agent behaviors using real-time explicit and implicit affective user feedback. The MdM program aims to validate the commercial viability of using agent-based mental wellbeing coaches in educational settings. Two key tools are in development: one to help students improve their self-regulatory competencies and wellbeing, and another to support mental health assessments and short-term counselling interventions in schools. Initial patent research suggests the JEPMEN may hold intellectual property rights potential, as it is the first study of its kind. JEPMEN has compiled the most comprehensive multimodal dataset in this context The collected data provide insight into internal emotional states and are being analysed in collaboration with the University of Cambridge and University of Granada. Ethical considerations are paramount in handling such sensitive information, and JEPMEN is compliant with these requirements.
