ColabSTOCK is a web application for the digitization of experimental laboratories.

PROBLEM AND SOLUTION

Currently, the vast majority of experimental laboratories lack a supermaterial digital record. As a consequence, it is estimated that each laboratory loses, on average, 1 month of work per year. Added to this is the notable economic cost and environmental impact that derives from a suboptimal use of excess resources as well as the lack of communication between laboratories belonging to the same companies or institutions. For them, we have created ColabSTOCK; a web application aimed at digitizing experimental laboratories that provides:

• Dynamic, functional and easy-to-use databases that allow the management and ordering of all materials and reagents in a laboratory, integrating all the information of interest to the researcher.
• A network of collaboration and use of resources. In it, laboratories belonging to the same Institution can easily share supermaterial, making use of the circular economy (sustainable research).

With all this, ColabSTOCK adds organization, time and financial savings, and a reduction of environmental impact to the laboratories, while promoting collaboration between them.

MARKET

The potential clients of ColabSTOCK are the small-medium chemical and biotechnology industry, as well as academia (research centers and universities), both public and private. In Catalonia, a leading region in biomedical and biotechnological research, there are more than 2,500 companies and 1,800 laboratories spread over more than 60 institutions. In Spain, the figures increase to 5,500 companies and 6,000 laboratories forming part of more than 200 institutions.

BUSINESS MODEL

Our business model is based on a subscription fee to ColabSTOCK by laboratories, companies or institutions, as well as the contracting of an optional digital transformation service from laboratories to our application, carried out by technical personnel.

BUSINESS TRAJECTORY AND ACHIEVEMENTS

ColabSTOCK aims to revolutionize the day-to-day of research laboratories, providing them with a tool that allows them to optimally manage their resources. Specifically, ColabSTOCK allows an intelligent and useful digital record of all the material and provides a network for collaboration and use of resources between different laboratories. Consequently, we seek to promote more effective, collaborative and sustainable research.

THE TEAM

ColabSTOCK is a web application that has been created by a group of four scientists while they were taking the Master's Degree in Bioinformatics for Health Sciences at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and the University of Barcelona (UB). Despite currently studying the same master's degree, we are a multidisciplinary team, since each of the members has completed a different university degree; this enriches us, complements and gives us great value both in project design and in its implementation.
