Viquidones
Multilingual group working for the introduction of the gender perspective in encyclopedic articles
Viquidones / Wikimujeres (V&W) is a multilingual group working for the introduction of the gender perspective in encyclopedic articles. Its main objective is to minimize the gender gap in Wikipedia both with respect to the editing and content of articles and the presence of women editors. In short, it aims to strengthen and expand the contents related to women, their biographies and work and other issues related to feminism or gender equality.
The origin of the project lies in the collaboration between some female Catalan wikipedians and various institutions and organizations supporting gender-related issues: Amical Wikimedia, Dones en Xarxa, Unitat d’Excel·lència Maria de Maeztu DTIC-UPF, Wikimedia Argentina, Wikimedia Mèxic, Iberocoop, and UPF Igualtat.
The UPF has shown a strong commitment on the subject, and agreements of joint work and cession of spaces have been arranged. This resulted in the inauguration, on May 24, 2016, of the Espai Viquidones UPF at the Ciutadella Campus. It is a permanent physical place to network and work together, which has open access and is available every Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm.
Participation in the workspace is part of the University's Social Engagement Activities Program (PACS), and allows for the recognition of ECTS credits.

The proces of edition progresses according to the availability and interests of each participant (no specific knowledge is required), as one of the main objectives is to bring people closer to a wiki environment and share knowledge. Even though they usually work in Spanish or Catalan, other languagues are more than welcome in the text editing community!
