Title: "The healthcare sector as a pillar of progress"
Date: 18th May, 18:30h
Location: Foment del Treball, Via Laietana, 32-34, Principal, Barcelona
On Monday, May 18, 2026, a session on the healthcare sector as a pillar of progress will be held at Foment del Treball. It will take place at the Foment building (Via Laietana, 32), and among the speakers will be Guillem López i Casasnovas, director of CRES-UPF.
This session will analyze the main challenges related to the financing of the healthcare and social system, with the aim of responding to citizens’ expectations and demographic characteristics. It will reflect on what kind of financing architecture would enable a more robust healthcare system in terms of efficiency, solvency, and equity.
It will also address issues such as the optimal level of public spending, the perception of underfunding, and future spending forecasts. It will consider to what extent these factors depend on management or respond to external elements such as population aging or social preferences.
The session will also examine how public and private financing efforts coexist—or how they ideally should coexist—in their different forms.
