In the article, Casasnovas argues that today’s social and economic discontent is not mainly caused by immigration, but rather by an economic model based on low wages, low productivity, and growth at any cost. He argues that many skilled workers leave because wages are too low, while low-productivity sectors depend on cheap labor and immigration to remain competitive.
He also criticizes the State for prioritizing tourism growth, employment, and overall GDP instead of improving people’s real well-being, added value, and wages. The article states that this model places pressure on public services, makes access to welfare more difficult, and weakens social cohesion, while public administrations fail to address the root causes of the problem.
