The Javier & Marta Villavecchia fellow Sara Ramos Contioso, composer and professor of composition at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Sevilla, who will join Pompeu Fabra University in May of this year, presents the premiere of one of her works at the Oratory of Sant Felip Neri in Barcelona on Friday, March 22 at 9:00 p.m.

It is Requiem. Songs of Absence, a piece that combines the text of the Latin requiem mass with the poetic reading of Carles Duarte. In the composer's words, the emphasis is placed on absence as something that transcends death itself, in an argument that unfolds within the framework of a spirituality that is both religious and secular. Under the direction of Maria Mauri Fàbregas, the instrumentation includes a mixed choir, two soloists (soprano and tenor), organ, and cello.

The project that Professor Ramos Contioso will carry out at the Haas Library during the spring semester, titled "Funeral Spirituality and Forgetfulness: Pierre Bouteiller's Requiem (1655-1717) as the Creative Genesis of a Multidisciplinary Proposal," is closely related to the premiere next Friday, and it responds to a long-standing interest of the composer, as well as a lengthy process of variation and creation based on traditional models.

Admission is free until seating is full.
