Information

Royal Decree Law 2/2023 on the modernisation of the public pension system was approved in March, which in article 1, section 34, provides for the obligation to include students who undertake external academic internships in the Social Security system. The same article stipulates that in the case of unpaid internships, the company, institution or organisation where the internship is undertaken must comply with Social Security obligations unless the educational cooperation agreement states that the education centre providing the training must meet the obligation, in this case the university.

This obligation comes into force on 1 January 2024. We inform you that, as provided by the regulations, our university will be responsible for both the management and the financial cost of covering the Social Security obligations of students on all internships without study aid.

In this link you will find the Rector’s Resolution on the Social Security obligations resulting from unpaid external academic internships undertaken by UPF students.

In relation to the internships that we are already managing and that extend beyond 1 January 2024, the agreement number 19 of the educational cooperation agreement has been updated, so it considers this measure.

For all agreements already managed and signed for this 2023-2024 academic year and that extend beyond 1 January 2024, we will send you an addendum that complements the current agreement with the same clause.

We remain at your disposal to answer any questions or provide any clarifications.
