We may not realize it, but artificial intelligence (AI) is all around us in our everyday lives, for example when we receive recommendations for songs to listen to, use automatic text translators or talk to voice assistants.

AI has evolved hugely over the last decade and is becoming an increasingly popular concept, but what exactly is it and what can it do for us? How will it change our world? Is it a threat to our jobs, as some warn, or will it create new opportunities, as the most optimistic reassure? What challenges must it solve to evolve, and what ethical dilemmas are posed by its development?

Anders Jonsson and Vicenç Gómez, researchers at the UPF Research Group in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, share their views on these issues at the first “Visions UPF” conversation.
