You are taking office in a challenging context due to the coronavirus pandemic. What motivated you to run for university rector?

We all have a personal and professional life cycle spanning multiple stages. Our areas of interest change as we move from one stage to another. For example, at the start of your academic career, you have to focus on launching research projects that generate knowledge; you also have to spend a lot of time preparing your classes. In contrast, as you mature, there comes a time when you start to wonder how you can help the institution and others. For several years now, what has motivated me the most is the idea of helping to make the world a better place, and that affects the university, too. At the same time, just under a year ago, several people at UPF proposed I run for the office. The fact that these people came from a wide range of disciplines and had very heterogeneous profiles was the deciding factor. In short, I think I can help make UPF even better and ensure that this improvement benefits the entire UPF community.
