UPF looks to become a world leader in defence of the concept of Planetary Wellbeing

min

UPF is launching an ambitious international programme to generate and transmit new knowledge related to the notion of Planetary Wellbeing.

Over the last century, mankind has made great progress in improving wellbeing in society; but this has come at the cost of an exploitation of our natural resources at an unprecedented rate, and, in addition, has brought about unacceptable inequalities in terms of people’s health and standard of living.

The most recent studies into the evolution of climate change and the degradation of our environmental resources have shown that we are currently facing a global emergency, which requires us to take a diverse range of transformative actions. UPF has proposed focusing its energies on find a response to a situation that poses great challenges in diverse fields of knowledge and teaching, including those related with: health, biology, politics, economics, the humanities, engineering, law and communication.

This is why UPF is embarking on a cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary task throughout the university, for which it hopes to find the support it needs to be able to offer possible solutions to governments, companies and institutions across the world.

This project is also framed within a wider context of the the United Nations’ sustainable development goals (SDGs), and represents a decisive bid on the part of UPF to assume responsibility, as an international research and teaching centre of excellence, for such relevant goals for the future of our planet.
