When and how did the concept of Planetary Health appear?

This concept came onto the scene in 2015 with the publication in the journal The Lancet of a multidisciplinary project titled: “Safeguarding human health in the Anthropocene epoch”. This far-reaching project was the result of a collaboration between the Rockefeller Foundation and the The Lancet. It presented the idea of Planetary Health as a new paradigm, and paved the way for a new way of approaching the interrelations between human health and the health of the planet.
