Welcome to a new edition of ‘Quiztime’, the 360upf magazine section that puts your knowledge to the test. This edition’s featured guest is Alexander Graham Bell.

Bell was one of the most important inventors of the 19th and 20th centuries, and last August marked the centenary of his death. Whilst over the course of his career, he conceived of devices such as the photophone, the audiometer and the HD-4, he is best known as the inventor of the first patented telephone… although, in 2002, he was stripped of this title by the US Congress.

Nevertheless, Bell introduced the world to the function of a telephone. In fact, in 1877, he showed off the invention at the centennial exhibition in Philadelphia, to great acclaim from the international media. That same year, Bell demonstrated the effectiveness of the device by making the first telephone call in history over a wire stretched between Cambridge and Boston. Bell continued to fine-tune the telephone until, finally, in 1915, he made another call, this time spanning the more than 5,742 kilometres between New York and San Francisco.

Whether you want to test your knowledge of him or learn more about the life of one of the figures to mark a turning point in history, we encourage you to take this quiz!
