Short Biosketch

I am an environmental social scientist (PhD Environmental Sciences, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2008) trained in interdisciplinary social science (MAS History & Economic Institutions, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2007) and ecological economics (MSc Ecological Economics, University of Edinburgh, 2000).

I work in the interdisciplinary fields of political ecology, ecological economics and degrowth.

My research in political ecology looks at the conflicts and politics of implementing low carbon transitions and climate adapted futures, by examining social and political challenges to climate change mitigation (e.g. wind energy) and adaptation (e.g. sea-level rise, urban greening) policy responses.

My ecological economics work has explored ways of improving environmental governance through the inclusion of plural values and languages of valuation in environmental decision-making by means of deliberation (deliberative ecological economics).

My work on degrowth looks at links between direct democracy and degrowth transitions.

Finally, a line of research developed in collaboration with postgraduate researchers uses Q methodology to look into attitudes and narratives about socio-ecological transformations (such as just transitions, food sovereignty, climate change adaptation) and means to pursue them (green taxation, non-meat-eating diets).

I am currently a Ramón y Cajal Fellow; before this, I worked for the Institute of Environmental Science & Technology (ICTA-UAB) in Barcelona as: Scientific Coordinator (2010-12) of the FP7 research project Climate Change, Hydro-Conflict and Human Security (CLICO); as Senior Researcher (2014-16), managing the FP7 European Network of Political Ecology (ENTITLE) Marie Curie ITN; and, as Postdoctoral Researcher (2013-14) in the FP7 Environmental Justice Organisations, Liabilities and Trade (EJOLT) Science-in-Society project..

Low carbon transitions; climate change adaptation; environmental conflicts; degrowth and direct democracy.
