Activities
The Barcelona International Summer School (BISS) is far more than just a series of courses. It is an opportunity to learn about exciting topics of your choice and also to engage with the BISS community beyond the classroom, to meet other students from a variety of backgrounds and to explore the city and UPF.
Our evening programme offers exciting social and cultural activities to enjoy Barcelona with fellow local and international students. The activities explore issues such as science, wellbeing, sustainability and social impact, and promote the exchange of ideas across disciplines and subject areas.

All evening activities are open to BISS students and lecturers and are included in the tuition fee and are free of charge. Each activity has limited spots and will be assigned on a first come first served basis.

1. Orientation weekend: Discover UPF Main Campus
Discover the ins and outs of our Ciutadella campus with a student-led tour. Our guides will show you all the essential facilities and tips to help you navigate the campus with ease during your stay. After the tour, enjoy interactive get-to-know-you games designed to connect you with fellow students.

2. BISS Kick-Off Dinner in Barceloneta
Join us for an unforgettable evening in the old fishing quarter of Barceloneta. Enjoy a delightful dinner with fellow students as we kick off a new edition of the Barcelona International Summer School. Savor authentic local cuisine and make new friends in a relaxed, fun atmosphere.

3. Discover Sustainable Barcelona in the Innovative Poblenou District
Explore an ecological and innovative space in a former boiler factory. Learn about its mission to create an urban ecosystem promoting sustainability, biodiversity, and urban regeneration. See how industrial heritage preservation and permaculture principles come together for a balanced and eco-friendly environment.

4. Social Beach Volley
Join us for an exciting, mixed-gender game of beach volleyball. Enjoy the sun, sand, and friendly competition after your classes. No experience needed—just come to socialize, have fun, and embrace Barcelona in summer!

5. UPF Alumni Film Screening: "The Creator of the Jungle"
Join us for a special screening of the award-winning documentary "The Creator of the Jungle" by UPF alumni Jordi Morató, followed by an engaging talk led by the UPF student Film Society, Cinetmosfera. This film has been at many international festivals and showcases the work of a production team that is now a key player in the Catalan film industry. This event is part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of our Communication Faculty. Don’t miss this opportunity to delve into captivating storytelling and connect with other fellow film-lovers.

6. Paddle Surf Evening
Just 15 minutes away from campus, join us at Barceloneta for a stand-up paddle surf session where you can disconnect from your classes and assignments for a while and enjoy the sea. Both beginners and advanced paddlers are welcome at our meeting point. Equipment is included, so just bring your swim gear!

7. Yoga in the Park
Unwind with a relaxing yoga session in Ciutadella Park, led by an instructor from the UPF community. Perfect for all levels, this session will help you de-stress in the greenest oasis of Barcelona, just 5 minutes away from our campus. Bring your mat or beach towel and enjoy a peaceful break from your routine.

8. Student-Led Tapas Tour
Join us for a delightful student-led tapas tour through one of the most popular streets for tapas in Barcelona. Experience the rich culinary culture as we visit some of the best local spots. This is a perfect opportunity to savor authentic tapas, explore the city, and make new friends. Each participant will pay for their own food at a special discounted price.
