SIMBioSys is part of the research comunity of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona, and it was established in October 2013 by Prof. Miguel A. González Ballester (ICREA Professor) and Prof. Gemma Piella Fenoy (Associate Professor at UPF).

SIMBioSys aims to consolidate as one of the leading research groups in medical image analysis and computer-assisted surgery through an integrative research activity on mathematical and computational models, algorithms and systems for computer-aided diagnosis and treatment.

In this sense, our research group works closely with industrial and clinical partners, offering a framework to propose and develop biomedical applications and new demonstrative prototypes that will be applied in clinical routine.

SIMBioSys main research lines

  • Develop computational models of anatomy, physiology, pathology and therapy (pharmacological and/or surgical).
  • Establish new algorithms for multi-modality image registration and fusion, in order to combine information from different imaging modality and/or different time points.
