Research Group - Proteomics and Protein Chemistry

The Research Group on Proteomics and Protein Chemistry is led by Dr. David Andreu. The group focuses on peptide chemistry (peptide antibiotics and synthetic peptide vaccines) and proteomics.

The main research lines are:

  • Design of structures with potent activities against bacteria, protozoa and fungi.
  • The structural dissection of complex, highly folded plant antimicrobial proteins.
  • Development of synthetic functional replicas of the main antigenic sites of foot-and-mouth disease virus as vaccine candidates.
  • Discovery of receptors for tissue-type plasminogen activator in pancreatic cells.
  • Characterization of post-translational modifications resulting from oxidative stress in amyloidoses and other conditions.
  • Identification of phenotypes selected by Bcl-xL over-expression in breast cancer cells that in vivo enhance the ubiquity of clinical metastasis.
  • Identification of proteins characteristic of the resistance patterns of A. baumannii multi-resistant strains associated to nosocomial infections.
