The Research Group on Language and Comparative Cognition is part of the Center for Brain and Cognition. The group is led  by Dr. Jose Manuel Toro and it focuses on the mechanisms that might be responsible for a linguistic capacity to emerge only in humans. The group thus studies whether humans share with other animals fundamental processes that are involved in the extraction of structure from the language input. The group also studies linguistic and perceptual constraints that shape such processes in humans at different developmental stages.
