The Research Group on Comparative Genomics is led by Dr. Tomàs Marquès-Bonet. The group focuses on the discovery and understanding of genomic polymorphism within humans and in comparison to great ape species. The goal is to create an integrated view of genome evolution by studying changes in the composition, frequency, size and location at every major branchpoint of human divergence from other primates.
The main research lines are:
- Human genetic variation in the context of great ape evolution.
- Evolution of human DNA methylation
- Canid evolution
- Accelerated exon evolution in human duplicated sequences
