Narges Kalhor (born 1984 in Tehran) studied feature film directing at the Tehran Film School and gained early experience working with Abbas Kiarostami. In 2009, she presented her short film DIE EGGE at the Nuremberg International Human Rights Film Festival. She continued her studies at the University of Television and Film Munich, receiving a Vodafone Foundation scholarship in 2011. Her graduation film In the Name of Scheherazade premiered at Visions du Réel (2019) and won the Goethe-Institut Award at DOK Leipzig.
She has received numerous honors, including the Bavarian Culture Award and the Starter Film Award (City of Munich). Her short SENSITIVE CONTENT screened at over 50 international festivals and won the GIFF.MX Mexico Award. In 2024, her feature film SHAHID premiered at the Berlinale, winning both the Caligari Film Award and the Arthaus Cinema Award. The film was nominated for the Grimme Award, won the Hessian Film Award for Best Feature, and had its German theatrical release in August 2024.
