Jorge Caballero is a filmmaker and researcher specializing in the intersection of cinema, technology, and social transformation. He holds a PhD cum laude in Cinema and Artificial Intelligence from Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and is also a Telecommunications Engineer and holds a Master’s degree in Interactive Media from the University of Limerick. He is an associate professor at UPF and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where he co-directs programs focused on algorithms applied to cinema and AI-driven narratives, and he is co-founder of Artefacto and GusanoFilms.

His films have been awarded and screened at festivals such as IDFA, TIFF, NYFF, Rotterdam, SXSW, Hot Docs, and Visions du Réel, among many others. He has received the Colombian National Documentary Award twice. His research includes projects with the United Nations using VR to explore memory and reconciliation, as well as the development of open AI-based methodologies for documentary filmmakers.
