Nicholas Evans
Doctorand a la UPF especialitzat en interacció musical i IA generativa

Nicholas Evans is a PhD candidate at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, working within the Music Technology Group’s Music and Multimodal Interaction Lab under the supervision of Sergi Jordà. His research focuses on creative applications of symbolic rhythm generation, including the development of a Eurorack module and artist collaborations that have led to performances at venues and festivals such as Palau Güell, Sónar, and +RAIN.

At +RAIN 2025, he will present déjà vu at LIVE, a performance that uses a Markov-based accompaniment generator to conjure musical memory. The piece offers fragmented reflections of the first performer, transformed and reinterpreted by the second. In an era where generative music is often associated with passive consumption, déjà vu aims to show how traditional symbolic models can provide a flexible framework for improvisation, interaction, and artistic expression.
