+RAIN Film Festival

May 26, 27 and 28 · Barcelona

The +RAIN Film Festival is preparing its fifth edition, further establishing itself as an international festival dedicated to AI-generated cinema and as a meeting point for research, creative practice and critical thinking. From this interdisciplinary perspective, the festival explores the transformations that generative AI is bringing about in audiovisual media, communication and contemporary culture, addressing their artistic, technological, political, economic and social dimensions.

Initiated by Pompeu Fabra University and co-organized with the UPF Foundation, with the support of the Government of Catalonia and Barcelona City Council, +RAIN is a cross-disciplinary project that connects different fields of knowledge and areas of expertise. Under the direction of Frederic Guerrero-Solé, the programme combines an international film showcase featuring its creators, talks, debates, live performances and artistic experimentation projects. The festival also promotes research, knowledge transfer and dialogue among creators, researchers, technologists, experts in ethics and intellectual property, cultural industry professionals, institutions and students.

The 2027 edition proposes four cross-cutting themes: integration, duality, divergence and friction, exploring the relationships between humans and machines, the tensions between creativity and automation, new artistic languages, and the challenges surrounding authorship, rights and technological power structures.
